Meghan McCain - “Stop rewarding the president’s speeches”

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Meghan McCain has a new piece up over at The Daily Beast.  It’s definitely worth a read.  Here’s a good part in response to President Obama’s speech to the HRC dinner -

“But my response to this speech and my message to the gay community is this: Stop rewarding the president’s speeches. Because for me, that’s all it is—pretty words delivered by a beautiful orator. ”

GOProud Calls on President Obama to Tell Gay Americans the Truth

Unveil Web Ad Urging Obama to “Come out of the Closet”

(Washington, D.C.) – Yesterday, the Human Rights Campaign announced that President Barack Obama would address their black-tie dinner in Washington, D.C. this weekend. “We think it is time that President Obama came clean with gay Americans,” said Jimmy LaSalvia, Executive Director of GOProud. “Talk is cheap, but unfortunately with this administration talk is all you get. It’s time President Obama told gay Americans just how unimportant they are to him and his administration.”

GOProud, the only national organization for gay conservatives and their allies, unveiled a new web ad this morning entitled “Come Out Barack.” The ad calls on Obama to “come out of the closet” about his record on, and his commitment to, gay issues.

The ad points out that despite capturing almost ¾ of the gay vote, raking in millions of gay dollars, and lofty campaign promises, Obama’s record on gay issues has been abysmal. “Whether it’s failing to deliver on ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ repeal, or his administration’s homophobic court filing in support of the Defense of Marriage Act, or his total unwillingness to confront tyrannical anti-gay regimes like Iran – President Obama’s record speaks louder than his words,” continued LaSalvia.

“Instead of delivering on campaign promises, Obama has chosen to play politics and trade away the promises made to gay families in secret backroom deals,” said LaSalvia.

“It is time President Obama came clean and was held accountable for his failures. GOProud is committed to making sure the gay community, and the rest of America, knows the truth about President Obama’s record and his priorities,” concluded LaSalvia.

Ros-Lehtinen Criticizes Direct Talks with Iran

“We must not waste the little time we have left to stop Iran’s nuclear weapons program on more failed talks”

(WASHINGTON) - U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, commented today on reports that U.S. officials met one-on-one with members of the Iranian regime.  Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“Iran’s intentions are as crystal clear as its history of deception.

“One-on-one meetings only grant precious legitimacy to the Iranian regime, while buying it more time to enrich uranium and develop nuclear weapons.

“Is it that U.S. officials need to hear directly from the Iranian radicals that they seek the destruction ofIsrael and America?  At what point will the U.S. and others stop basing their Iran policy on wishful thinking and, instead, focus on countering this growing and imminent nuclear threat?

“The U.S. must put away the begging bowl, act like a world leader, and lead the effort to impose immediate, crippling sanctions on the Iranian regime.

“Rather than falling for the bait-and-switch from extremist regimes like those in Iran, Cuba, Syria, or North Korea to name a few, our foreign policy must instead make clear to these outlaws that their actions will neither be tolerated nor rewarded by overtures from the United States.”
